Book Review: Narnia 1-3

HURRAY!! I finally finished The Horse and His Boy
I just decided to to do a review for the first three all at once since they are in a series and they are short books.

Narnia #1: The Magicians Nephew
When Digory and Polly are tricked by Digory's peculiar Uncle Andrew into becoming part of an experiment, they set off on the adventure of a lifetime. What happens to the children when they touch Uncle Andrew's magic rings is far beyond anything even the old magician could have imagined.
Hurtled into the Wood between the Worlds, the children soon find that they can enter many worlds through the mysterious pools there. In one world they encounter the evil Queen Jadis, who wreaks havoc in the streets of London when she is accidentally brought back with them. When they finally manage to pull her out of London, unintentionally taking along Uncle Andrew and a coachman with his horse, they find themselves in what will come to be known as the land of Narnia.
Rating: 4
Review: Some people think it is a slow story, but I did not think it was slow at all I really enjoyed it.

Narnia #2: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
Four English schoolchildren find their way through the back of a wardrobe into the magic land of Narnia and assist its ruler, the golden lion Aslan, to triumph over the White Witch, who has cursed the land with eternal winter.
Rating: 4
Review: It is the most common of the Narnia books and I have had to read it twice before for school, but you get a new meaning in the book when you choose to read it on your own. I really enjoyed it and all of the books are beautifully written.

Narnia #3: The Horse and His Boy
Shasta is a young boy living in Calormene with a cruel man who claims to be his father. One night he overhears his "father" offering to sell him as a slave, so Shasta makes a break and sets out for the North. He meets Bree, a talking horse who becomes his companion. On their way they encounter Aravis, a high-born girl escaping an arranged marriage, and her talking horse. Despite their differences the children and horses learn to work together to reach the freedom they long for.
Rating: 3
Review: I didn't like this book as much as the others, it wasn't as interesting to follow the story line. It is my brothers favourite of the Narnia books so I think it depends on the person. It is a well written book with a creative story line, it just didn't grab my attention in the same way.

As Life Goes On #2

SO BUSY!
*yawn*
I have to do this in the morning because I have no other time. I barely have time to read and I don't have time to blog. It is frustrating. I didn't even have time to post a poetry corner this week.
I have been really busy with school and I have about 3-4 hours of homework every night. Plus that doesn't include studying for tests and projects.
Even though I am super busy last weekend was fun my school had homecoming which was awesome! I wore 4 inch heals and I had the sorest feet the next day, but I loved it. My brother was able to fix our Wii which we thought was broken so we have Netflix now and I am really happy because I could watch Doctor Who again.
Since I have some more time today I am going to try to finally finish Narnia: The Horse and His Boy. I will probably post again later today with either something random or a book review later.
hope everyone is having a good week end :)

A Challenge

I can't stand the thought that I am too busy with school and I watch to much Anime to blog and read so I want to give myself a challenge:
I am going to try to read at least one book every week. So I would read a book on Sunday and I would have through Saturday to finish it and write a book review on it. Even though it is Saturday I will probably start my first book today which would be to finish the third Narnia book: The Horse and His Boy.
The order I hope to read the books in for the next 20 books I hope to read will be:
The Horse and His Boy
Crescent Moon 1-3
Hana Kimi 1-4
Prince Caspian
The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
The Silver Chair
The Last Battle
Before I Fall
The Perks of Being a Wallflower (I have to by this book so I am not sure if I will read it)
The Giver
A Winkle in Time
Bad Girls Don't Die
Thirst #1
Thirst #2
The Help
Daniel X
The Keepers Calling
Artemis Fowl

If anyone has any book suggestions please tell me :D
Time to start reading!

Poetry Corner #4

This week I am doing Jabberwocky for two reason it is my number one all time favourite poem and it is the poem I am memorizing for my poetry class recitation!!

Jabberwocky
        by: Lewis Carroll

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
   Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
   And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
   The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand;
Long time the manxome foe he sought—
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
   And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
   And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
   The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
   He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!"
   He chortled in his joy.

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
   Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
   And the mome raths outgrabe.

I hope you guys liked the poem :D
Have a good weekend everyone!

Poetry Corner #3

Mother to Son
     by: Langston Hughes

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on the steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now—
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Random Thoughts: Books and Reading

As a continuous of how awesome libraries are, I will explain why reading and books are so awesome. If you do not agree that "reading is cool" I hope you will either learn to love books or I don't know why you are reading this.
Reading takes you to new places and lets you see new things. "The things you're looking for, [...] are in the world, but the only way the average chap will ever see ninety-nine percent of them is in a book." (Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury). I thought it would be appropiate to quote a book since we are talking about books and reading.
Without books we wouldn't know half the things we do and we would have no imagination. A life without books is  a life not worth living for. So go ahead pick up a book and read, just make sure it is not the last you read.

Does anyone like picking up another book now and reading?

Random Thoughts: Libraries

Do you like my new banner?

Libraries have always been a wonderful place that I love. You can find every type of book there and books are the greatest thing ever :D
When I grow up I want a library in my house that has over 2,000 books in it. It will hold all the books I love in my heart. I want a library like the one Beauty and the Beast.
I love this library because of it size and its beauty. It have wonderful decorations in the library that do not distract you from the books make, but makes them even more beautiful.

This library is wonderful because it is real and it holds millions of books under one roof, what could be better.

I always have loved the libraries in books in movie's that have been lost for centuries but now they have been found. They are wonderful. They are full of lost treasure's and wonders. They are beautiful <3

Does anyone else think libraries are one of the most amazing things ever?

Poetry Corner #2

This weeks poem is 'I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud' By William Wordsworth. I am doing this Poem this week because I had to memorize it for my Poetry class recitation. I thought I was going to do awful at the recitation, but my poetry teacher told me after school I got the highest score in my class for my recitation. So I thought I would share it with you :D

I Wondered Lonely as a Cloud
                     by: William Wordsworth

I wondered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
when all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the starts that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing there head in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

I hope you enjoyed the poem and that everyone has a fabulous weekend and first day of September.
