Things Not Recognized

I have finally discovered that poems are more than just words on a piece of paper they have deep meaning behind every word, and they mean things to the poets that write them. It is a challenge to understand poems but it is worth it. You get to pick apart the poem, and try to find its deeper meaning. I think this inspiration came from me taking poetry this semester in school. I hope anyone who reads these posts will gain a deeper understanding of poetry and learn to enjoy poems as much as I do!

This weeks poem...
To Waken an Old lady
          by: William Carlos Williams

Old age is
a flight of small
cheeping birds
skimming
bare trees
above a snow glaze.
Gaining and failing
they are buffeted
by a dark wind-
But what?
On harsh weedstalks
the flock has rested
the snow
is covered with broken
seedhusks
and the wind tempered
by a shrill
piping of plenty.

The deeper meaning that my class and I came to is that The old women is Mother Earth. It is winter and she is growing old as the year. She is new in the spring, just as the flowers are new and she slowly ages with the plants during the year and in the winter she dies off until the spring.    It says that there are broken seedhusks covering the ground which mean the seeds could be buried in the ground and can grow in the spring when Mother Earth wakes up again.

I hope you enjoyed the poetry I will try to post a different poem every week and I hope you enjoy!

Book Review: Fahrenheit 451

Well since I will be doing book reviews often, I decided to make a banner or sign( or whatever it is called). Yeah!! Do you guys like it? Now to the book...

Summary: Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out. His job is to destroy the most illegal of commodities, the printed book, along with the houses in which they are hidden.

Montag never questions the destruction and ruin his actions produce, returning each day to his bland life and wife, Mildred, who spends all day with her television “family.” But then he meets an eccentric young neighbor, Clarisse, who introduces him to a past where people didn’t live in fear and to a present where one sees the world through the ideas in books instead of the mindless chatter of television.

When Mildred attempts suicide and Clarisse suddenly disappears, Montag begins to question everything he has ever known. He starts hiding books in his home, and when his pilfering is discovered, the fireman has to run for his life.
Rating: 4
Review: It is a really intriguing story with a great plot. It is amazing that I read this book for school and that it is was written in the fifties because now there are a ton of dystopian, futuristic books. It is amazing how the author was able to think of a world where everyone is addicted to the Television and how books are being destroyed. Even though in the beginning of the book I hated it because they were burning books and I felt like that is the worst you can do unless it is Twilight then it is allowed, but as the story progressed it ended up having a really deep story and meaning and I loved it! I would have to say it is borderline five, I have to say it is really rare for a book that I read at school to be given a five but this book is just so close to it.
I would recommend this book for anyone who really likes distopian books or likes to go into a deeper meaning behind a story because this book defiantly has that.
Hope Everyone has a Great Weekend!

My Poetry #1

At School I am taking a Poetry class this Semester and I have nothing to do with the poems once I turn them in so I will post them here! Please tell me what you think and be honest because they probably won't be very good, but I still have to try for school, oh well.

Books

Books, chapter’s, pages filled with thought;
Unlocks imagination within our minds,
That expands with the story plot.
It takes us on a magic ride through time, space and new worlds.

The leafy pages teach us about the world,
Like trees teach us about the past.
They can be about anything untold.
Books are the gifts of the past and present.

They tell us of wondrous things, better than anything else,
And they are the keys to knowing ourselves.
Books are here with us today;
They will never go away.

Isn't it just awful great. I kinda hoped you enjoyed it, but I understand if you didn't besides this was my first poem I wrote.

As Life Goes On: My Birthday

Since I have been busy with school I couldn't post, but last Sunday (August 12th) was my birthday!!!! I have to say even thought I didn't have a party this was one of the best birthdays ever!!!
I was kinda sad that it was on a Sunday so I can't do as much but it is still awesome! Yesterday I Hung out with my friend and she gave me the coolest and best gift Ever!! It was a replica of Luna Lovegood's Wand from Harry Potter! Completely perfect for me since it is my favourite book and she is my favourite character! She also gave a note pad with zebra stripes on the sides and a pen that has the letter 'J' hanging off of it.
I also went to dinner with my family Saturday night. My mom gave me an Eiffel Tower charm for my Origami Owl locket. My Grandma gave me  fifty dollars which is nice.
On my Birthday we had waffles for breakfast and then may parents gave me my gifts. I got a huge wall mural that is a black and white picture of Paris and it says Paris on it and the Eiffel Tower is the 'I'. I got all this other Paris and France related stuff as well and I got an apron and spatula since I like cooking. That is all for my birthday it was fabulous and for desert we had Creme Brulee that I made, Yum!!

Since my birthday is now over shall say other things, haha. My braces have finally stopped hurting. I love French class and I am trying to convince my mom to let me do a summer study abroad in France. I finished Naruto and I am now watching Naruto Shippuden, haha. Hope everyone is having a good day and have a good weekend!!

Random Thoughts: My Week

So many things going on! School started Monday, which is good and bad. I was able to see all my wonderful friends again but I also have a ton of homework now which is a pain and I keep getting distracted by my computer, oops. Plus that means less time for books which means you will get posts about books I read at school which are usually good or about Random thoughts like this, haha.
Nevermore came out Monday and the entire book was maddening.
My French Teacher wasn't at school until Wensday because of a family funeral, tear. I hate it when sad stuff happens to teachers. Now that she is at school she speaks in French the entire class. Which is really cool but really confusing at times, oh well, I will get better at understanding her. It does help that I took three years of Latin before this and that 40-50% of English word have French roots.
On Tuesday morning I got braces, and they hurt when I chew but today they didn't hurt as much I was happy. I thought to my self maybe I will get used to it and they won't bother me forever. It also helps that I only got braces on my top teeth, but I have to get them on my bottom teeth later, oh well.
Just so this post is only about my boring life here is one of my current favourite songs by Sia. Is it weird that I am American and I like an Australian singer, haha.

I hope you enjoyed my randomness, haha :D

Book Review: Nevermore

Hey look at that I finally finished it, took long enough (4 whole days, what is wrong with me)! If you want a summary of the book go the the Nevermore Release post.
It was amazing, but it drove me insane!! I hated Dylan the entire time and I finally forgive Fang for leaving. Oh did I forget to mention that there will be spoilers, stupid me I was just so excited that I wanted to tell you all about it and THERE ARE SPOILERS!!! Ok now that I have mentioned that the full review will start in the next paragraph : D

Review: 4-5
Odd review, I know. I loved it don't get me wrong it just drove me insane at times so I want to bump it down to a 4 but it is still amazing enough to be a 5. I don't know what to think, see what I mean the book drove me insane! I hate Dylan as much as I ever did and I wish he would stop trying to win Max over. I can't believe she would ever listen to him and even kiss him, I hated her at times. Ari is Alive as well as Angel. Fang comes back to Max, best part of the book in my opinion. He told he loved her and they are meant for each other no matter if Dylan loved he was programmed to love her. They are able to rescue Angel from the lab. Things are going ooookkkk, not great though never great, oh did I forget to mention Maya died it was the highlight of my day even if Fang was slightly sad it doesn't matter because he was just trying to replace Max. This is also this problem with the 99% group who wants to kill off them world population by 99%. The book is amazing but I am not sure about the ending but I think that is just because the ending is so unexpected maybe.

Now that I have spoiled the entire book, silly me. For those of you who read the whole thing I would like to know who has read at least one book in the maximum Ride series. I will probably read Narnia again next because it has been a while but I can still give you things about my life and classics I read for school. Right now for school we are reading Fahrenheit 451 it is quite good.
Hope everyone enjoyed my rambling, haha : D

Nevermore Release!!

One last chance...
For Max, Fang, Angel, Iggy, Nudge, and Gazzy.
Before it all ends.

Are you ready for the final chapter? Are you ready for the ultimate flight? Because THIS IS IT. One last incredible, explosive adventure with an astonishing ending that no one could have seen coming.

I can't believe the final book is coming out, it was only about a year and a half ago that I started following the series and now it is my second favourite of all time (behind Harry Potter of course)! I got the book this morning on my kindle and I woke up randomly at  5:22 AM and started reading was 23% done by 7:15.  Sadly I had my first day of school today, but when I talked to my other friends that like Maximum ride they totally forgot that it was coming out today.... grrr!
Since I have home work I have not been able to get back to reading it, but it is amazing so far. Things that you didn't expect are happening and people who died are now alive again, it's maddening!!! I love it so far and can't wait to find out what is happening!! I will put my final review of the book up probably tomorrow but with school it might be later.
Have a good end of summer! :D
-Jane (who is jealous that you don't have school yet and you have more time for reading... grrr)
